MCT stands for medium-chain triglycerides—"healthy fats" that are easily digested by the body. MCT oil (like the supplement I add to my smoothies) is made entirely from organic coconuts.
What Does It Do
Instead of being stored as fat, MCTs are burned by the body for energy—making this a great supplement to take before a workout. They are easy for the body to digest, help regulate blood sugar levels, improve metabolism and can generate energy more quickly than other dietary fats. MCT oil also fuels the brain and helps the body absorb vitamins and minerals more efficiently.
Why I Love Them
MCTs are usually found in dairy, but since I have a non-dairy diet, I add this oil to my daily avocado pudding smoothie—especially if I plan to work out and need a boost in energy. Unlike many supplements, MCT oil is tasteless and odorless, so it mixes great with all smoothies—even for the kids!
