So excited to be on cupcakeMAG’s Summer 2014 cover feature!! I got to introduce some of my favorite pieces from our Kardashian Kids Summer collection and talk more about the creation of the line and our inspiration behind it. Here is part of the interview, but you can read the full issue HERE!
CM: When did you decide to venture into kid-style?
KK: I’ve always loved kids’ fashion. My grandmother actually has a children’s clothing boutique called Shannon & Co. that she’s had for 30 years in LA Jolla, CA. Every summer, we would go to La Jolla to visit and work in her store. My mom and I also had a kids’ clothing store (smooch) before I had my own children, where I did all the buying for, so it’s kind of in our blood. But, I think it’s also because Kim and I are moms now. We have our own clothing line and we love fashion, and so it just made sense to venture into a children’s line.
CM: Do you feel like the newest collection really represents your style as well as a mix of how you like to dress your own kids?
KK: Absolutely. I love to put Penelope in bold prints, and there is a butterfly print that I just adore in the new collection. We also made sure that the details like the fabrics were especially soft, because as a mom it’s the first thing I look for when I’m shopping for my kids. I touch everything to make sure that it’s super soft and comfortable.
CM: What is your go-to outfit?
KK: I always find that there are just some pieces that you can’t mess up and for me; this outfit is a white t-shirt, skinny jeans and a black motorcycle jacket. It’s effortless when in a rush.
On Saturday I spent the day with my friend Stacey Bendet of Alice & Olivia to create a kindness wall. Stacey felt inclined to spread kindness after a series of tragedies like the Boston bombing. She was inspired to do these kindness walls which are not only aesthetically beautiful but send a beautiful message. She is one of my mommy muses. She inspires me as a mom every day balancing it all.
The Kindness Project was started to inspire kindness and creativity for all ages. The concept is to create beautiful artistic walls in public places that are covered in positive messages of love and kindness that people can take, share or add to with their own positive messages. All of the kindness cards have a drawing or painting on one side and the message on the other side, which makes the wall colorful and vibrant with beauty and love! It’s a simple and sweet way to help make the world a better place.
The Kindness Project has often taken the form of a collaborative wall, but sometimes Stacey has made these beautiful tree installations where people hang cards as leaves and sometimes it is expressed in the form of an instagram message that brightens people’s day. The hashtag #thekindnessproject lets us aggregate the positive messages! You can also add/take from the kindness wall in either Alice & Olivia or Dash Boutique in Southampton or make your own. Kind words can heal!
